Triptorelin, Decapeptyl, Trelstar, Diphereline, Triptodur
A synthetic decapeptide GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) agonist. Initial dosing paradoxically stimulates LH/FSH release (the 'flare' effect) with a short-lived rise in sex hormones; continuous or depot exposure then down-regulates pituitary GnRH receptors, causing profound and sustained suppression of testosterone/estrogen (reversible medical castration).
